Planning your arrival at JNB

O.R. Tambo to Johannesburg or Pretoria

For a stay in Johannesburg, start with the city comparison. It puts JNB and the other airports side by side, so you can see their distances without opening each airport page. Once you have an accommodation address, use that for your road route. The city point used here may be some way from where you’re staying.

Going to Pretoria instead? JNB is about 44 km from the Pretoria point in a straight line. Open that city’s page to compare the airport options for your stay. There’s no need to use Johannesburg as a stand-in simply because it appears in your flight search.

Check JNB or HLA before arranging pickup

Lanseria International Airport (HLA) is a different airport, about 32 km from our Johannesburg point. JNB is closer to that point, but check both airports against your actual address if you haven’t booked yet. Then look at the flights available for your dates.

For pickup, send the driver the airport name and code from your booking. JNB means O.R. Tambo; HLA means Lanseria. “Johannesburg airport” leaves room for confusion. Check your return ticket too, especially if you’ve booked the two journeys separately. You may need to leave from a different airport.

If you need to travel between airports

The other-airports table shows distances starting at JNB. Use it when looking at a possible airport change, rather than taking a number from the city table: that table ends at a town or city, not another airport.

Before booking separate flights, check the road journey between the terminals and the timing requirements for the next flight. Allow for collecting bags and checking them in again if your bookings require it. Straight-line distance cannot tell you whether you’ll make a connection. The map link can help you locate the airport; use a road route for the transfer itself.
